Fasting Day is Doris Day
It's 7 am. Usually I'd be hearing the distant sounds of the coffee maker gurgling, dripping. Beeping when that dark, rich satisfying brew is ready for my vanilla cinnamon creamer. But not today.
Todays a day of lab work, mammograms and artery scans. So I fast.
And then I'll feast with my friend Doris, a 5 ft tall, red headed spit-fire who's going to be 94 tomorrow. I've seen her fall and get right back up. She's kinda like one of those weighted blow-up clowns we had as kids that you punch and it pops right back up, just like Doris. Amazing!!! She takes no meds but uses a breathalyzer to help get breathe occasionally. And she never moans when she gets up or out of a car. I think she has WD40 in her veins instead of blood.
So I bought her this birthday card and on the front it shows this huge truck with a guy unloading 50 some boxes, boxes all over the place. And inside it says:
" your birthday candles have arrived"
Last year I found this card with redwoods on the front and a beautiful verse about how majestic they are, how they've been around for centuries, etc.
and inside it said "thank you for planting them"
These cards crack me up And the best part is they also crack Doris up. So today's going to be a good day,
Coffee or no coffee.
