Losing friends Empty Losing friends

Post by Jim Thu Oct 27, 2016 1:38 pm

A week ago today....
I was scheduled to have lunch with my spit fire, red headed, 94 yr old friend, Doris, and Kathy, our 70 something friend...a picture of health, a chauffeur, best pal and life line to Doris.
With so many restaurants popping up in the newly gentrifying Oceanside, Kathy loved to research new places for us to try and we'd meet at least once a month. I never minded the 40 minute drive because I loved them both so much. (And I'm such a foodie...)
The phone rings around 9:30 and it's Doris: "Kathy and I went to lunch yesterday and I think she got some food poisoning. She ate a couple French fries and said they were making her nauseous and she needed to go home. I can't reach her this morning so I think we need to cancel our lunch. If you hear from her, let me know"
So I texted Kathy, " I hear you're feeling sick. Are you ok? I know lunch is off the table, so to speak, but Doris and I are concerned cause she can't reach you?????"
She didn't reply
She'll never reply.
She dropped dead on her kitchen floor the night before while feeding her dog, Rosie.
Most of us don't believe it was food poisoning, but a heart attack.
Doris cries, "it's just not possible!!! It should've been me!"
Our hearts are broken.
Kathy had a way about her that made you feel so special. Every time she saw me, her face would light up and she'd say, "MARNI!!!!" as she opened her arms for a big hug. How could you not love her????
I'm afraid it's starting...that age where you start losing your friends...
So I feel the need to remind us all: every day, laugh til your sides hurt, love til your heart hurts and live like there's no tomorrow
There may not be....
