Locked Up
"OK, I'm leaving, I'll lock the gate on the way out," said the plumber, there to fix a leak in the Zen apt I was cleaning while the owner was gone.
I didn't think there'd be a problem, though I'd never locked myself in to clean before. But there WAS a problem!!! I couldn't get out. The key I had unlocked the top, but the bottom lock had one of those vertical/horizontal locks and it was always hard to get the door opened, even when it was unlocked. So there I was trying this and trying that to no avail!!!!
Finally, two young women walked by and asked, "Do you need help?"
"Yes, I can't make the key work!"
"Let me try"; and they tried and tried and said, "See, it's not you!"
Finally one of them got it to open and I was FREE!!! Yay!
So, I mentioned I had just gotten back from Japan where everyone was so helpful, just like they were.
"Isn't it nice to travel so you can see the different cultures?, said one of them.
"Yes it is. Before Japan, I always thought New Zealand had the nicest people."
The other girl said, "She just got back from New Zealand."
So, there we stood, out on the sidewalk while one friend was on the phone and the traveler and I talked about the wonders of New Zealand, finding out we'd been in a lot of the same places, exchanging stories about how kind the people were to us .....
Then they said they should take my picture. I only wish I had thought to take theirs.
